Exporting
Caddis renders out through the Export dialog (Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+E or the Render button), plus a one-click save frame button in the viewer for grabbing stills as you work.
Export dialog
Pick a Type, then a Format within it:
| Type | Formats |
|---|---|
| Video | H.264 (small file / high quality), ProRes 422 HQ, ProRes 4444, WebM VP9 (with or without alpha) |
| Image Sequence | PNG (8-bit), EXR (16-bit linear) |
| Still Image | PNG — current frame |
| Animated | GIF |
| Audio | WAV, MP3 |
Common settings: output location, resolution (composition / half / custom), frame range (full duration / work area / custom), render quality, and per-codec advanced options (CRF, encoder speed, GOP size).
Still image (single frame)
Still Image → PNG — current frame renders exactly the frame the playhead is parked on to a single PNG — no more exporting a one-frame "sequence" as a workaround. The output picker is a regular save-file dialog; range and resolution rows don't apply (stills render at composition resolution).
Image-sequence filenames
Image sequences get a Filename field — the prefix for every frame file, producing <prefix>_00042.png (or .exr). It defaults to the composition name, so sequences identify themselves instead of the anonymous frame_00042.png. Characters that can't appear in filenames are replaced with underscores.
Save frame from the viewer
The camera button in the viewer toolbar saves the current frame as a full-quality PNG into the project's renders/ folder, named <comp name>_<frame>.png. If a file with that name already exists, a numbered suffix is added instead of overwriting. A confirmation shows where it landed (e.g. "Frame 54 saved to renders/Main_00054.png").
The project must be saved at least once — the button needs a project folder to save into.
Notes
- All exports render in sRGB except EXR sequences, which are written as linear-light 16-bit half floats.
- The dialog remembers your output path. If that file (or sequence name) already exists, it asks before exporting: Overwrite, Keep both (an auto-numbered name like
render_2.mov), or Cancel. A path you pick fresh through Browse is confirmed by the system dialog and overwrites. - PNG sequences with audible layers also write a sidecar
audio.wavinto the output folder. - Audio inside nested compositions is mixed in when the Comp Source's Audio output is wired into the layer's Output, on the nesting layer's clip timing and through its Audio Gain, Pan, and Mute.
- Exports honor the render-quality picker (Full / Preview / Draft) — the viewer save-frame button always renders at Full.
